Steps to Install OS X 10.10 Yosemite Retail on VMware on Windows
STEP 1: Extract the file image
When downloaded, the Yosemite Retail file image comes bundled up. To extract this, you need to use unarchiving software like WinRar or 7zip. To extract the image, right click on it and select “Extract here”. All the files will be unbundled and stored as single useful files.
Step 2: Install VMware
Install the VMware Player and Workstation in your PC. This should be easy because an installation wizard will help you through all the steps as soon as you double-click on the .exe files.
Step 3: Use the Unlocker to patch VMware
Open the patch tool folder. Look for the file named “Win-install” and right-click on it. Choose “Run as administrator”. What this action does is that it patches the VMware player so the OS X guest operating system is supported. Without the unlocker, you cannot install Mac OS X on the VMware!
Step 4: create a new virtual machine
Open the VMware player or Workstation you installed and click on “Create new virtual machine”. Next, choose “I will install the operating system later”. Then make the following selections:
Guest OS: Apple Mac OS X.
Version: Mac OS X 10.9 (or higher).
Click on “Next” and on the next screen specify the Machine name. This can be any name but the most preferable is Yosemite 10.10. Choose a suitable location on which to save the machine. Preferably, this should be a hard disk that is separate from the one your Windows OS is stored or at the very least use a different hard disk partition. When done with all the settings click on “Finish”.
Step 5: Change the Virtual machine’s hard drive
Select the Virtual Machine you just created and click on “Edit Virtual Machine Setting”. Under the hardware tab, click on “Hard Disk (SATA)”. Click on the “Remove” button. This will be removed.
Next, click on the “add” button. Choose Hard disk then SATA then click on “Use an Existing Virtual Disk”. On the next window, there will be a “Browse” button. Click on it and go to the location where the Yosemite 10.10 image file was stored. Choose the Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite Retail on Vmware.vdmk and click on “Open”.
Step 6: Edit the Virtual Machine

Set up the Virtual Machine’s memory and processor with 50% of your RAM and 80% of CPU. When done making the changes you want, click on “OK”. Congratulations! You are done with setting up the virtual machine.
Step 7: Set up your account on Yosemite
Go back to the VMware home screen and open the Yosemite virtual machine. Set up your account using the prompts you will be provided with and within no time you will have your very own account. You will have a Mac on the same PC you have Windows.
